Personal development, health and physical education

At our school, we place great importance on physical fitness and sporting achievements as essential aspects of student learning and growth. Your child can engage in a variety of sports, ranging from recreational activities and local competitions to elite state-level representation. Our sporting culture is built on the principles of fair play, commitment, teamwork, and perseverance.

Personal Development, Health & Physical Education (PDHPE)

Personal Development, Health & Physical Education (PDHPE) contributes to the cognitive, social, emotional and physical development of students by providing an experiential curriculum that is contemporary, relevant, challenging and physically active.

Through the study of PDHPE, our programs are contextualised to reflect the diverse needs of students within the school and the learning experiences provide students with the foundations to lead and promote healthy, safe and active lives.

Physical Activity and Sports Studies (PASS) is an elective subject for students in Years 9 and 10. In PASS, students deepen their understanding of physical activity, develop movement skills, analyse movement performance, leadership opportunities and marketable skills in organisation.

Community and Family Studies (CAFS) provides students with the opportunity to develop their understanding of the diverse nature and interdependence of families and communities within Australian society. It helps students to plan and manage resources effectively in order to address contemporary issues facing families and communities.

Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation (SLR) enables students to further develop their understanding of and competence in a range of sport and recreational pursuits. They are encouraged to establish a lifelong commitment to being physically active and to achieving movement potential.

Elite Representation

Your child will be able to participate in NSW Combined High Schools (CHS) program across a range of individual and team sports. Every year, we have strong representation at Sydney East and CHS carnivals, with students receiving Sporting Blues in their respective fields. This elite competition provides an avenue for talented sports students to refine their skills, compete at the highest level, and achieve individual success.

Port Hacking Grade Sport

Our school is part of the highly valued Port Hacking Zone Grade Sport competition where allows your child to compete against other local high school teams across the Sutherland Shire. Students can choose from a range of sports including OzTag, Beach Volleyball, Football, Netball, and will travel to various schools and venues across the shire, representing our school. We proudly afford students this sporting opportunity as it builds their sense of pride in being part of our school and the broader shire community.

Maroubra Beach Touch

Our school has a long-standing tradition of participating in this unique and highly popular interschool competition. The competition sees multiple teams of students at our school compete against schools from across NSW at Maroubra Beach. Beach Touch is described as a hybrid form of Touch Football, Rugby League and OzTag, and every year we have a strong contingent of students proudly representing our school.

Rugby League

The recently re-established Rugby League competition across the Port Hacking Zone for both U13 and U15 boys and girls allows students to showcase their skills and talents for Rugby League and League Tag in front of peers as they compete against other local schools. Your child will have the opportunity to be involved in this program and be coached both retired and current NRL players on our staff. Staff work w

Gymnasium

Our fully equipped indoor gym facilitates a range of activities including cross fit, High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), resistance training, cardio and conditioning. In the gym, students are guided through correct technique and movement under the close supervision of PDHPE teachers. This space caters for students of all abilities and is a key component in our approach to physical wellbeing. It is utilised by Physical and Sport Studies (PASS) classes and is an option for school sport.

Facilities

We provide students with high quality sporting facilities to enhance their growth, development and engagement in physical fitness. From our full-size oval for football, rugby league, and rugby union, to our cricket nets, gym, artificial multi-purpose court and basketball court; our facilities are fully accessible and enable teachers to deliver quality teaching and learning experiences for all students, regardless of their ability level or preferred sport.
