Principal's message

Sylvania High School is a safe, caring and inclusive school that caters for the diverse learning and wellbeing needs of students. Our high expectations of performance and conduct are equally driven by a commitment to upholding the core values of public education; values that represent the aspirations and beliefs of the Australian community as a whole, including its concern for equity, excellence and the promotion of a caring, civil and just society.

Your child will experience a responsive and personalised approach to their growth and development to nourish a love of lifelong learning and build confidence in their pursuit of excellence and achievement. We acknowledge, respect and value Aboriginal people as Australia’s First Nations people. We acknowledge the continuous ties Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have with this land by breathing life into their narratives, language and customs.

The Dharawal people are  the traditional custodians of the lands and waterways upon which Sylvania High School resides and we produly learn all that we can; sharing their truth so we can walk together to create a shared future. All nations. All people.

We believe promoting, amplifying and valuing your child’s voice enables them to be an empowered learner who is deeply engaged in shaping the world around them, and sustaining the threads of civility and dignity in our democratic society.

Students of all abilities irrespective of their cultural, religious or socio-economic backgrounds, forge our inclusive school culture that upholds the true spirit of diversity and acceptance. Your child will have teachers who encourage them to engage in spirited and informed debate, and instil a strong sense of pride in being part of such an aspirational learning community that values real world experiences and complex ethical thinking.

Our students engage with a broad curriculum that responds to their individual learning preferences and enriches their capabilities. Whilst we have a dedicated extension class in every year group for high potential, gifted and highly gifted students who excel in their academic fields, we ensure all students in every classroom have opportunities that enrich their learning. This commitment is seen every day through differentiated and diverse pathways your child will experience as they achieve success both within and beyond the curriculum.

We continue to be a school of choice in the local and broader community for our high-quality responsive approach and positive culture. Students and staff proudly uphold values of equity and inclusivity, and espouse an ethos that intertwines wellbeing with learning to ensure all students enjoy flourishing lives.
