Career Education at Sylvania High School is focused on encouraging students to develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary for them to be able to make informed decisions about school and post school education, training and employment options and to enable effective participation in various life opportunities and activities.
The Career Education program is embedded across all key learning areas with individual counseling, excursions and guest speakers.
There are a number of resources available for students (and parents). These include:
School based Traineeships
It is possible to complete a traineeship while you are still at school. In a School Based, Part Time Traineeship, you complete your Traineeship part time and complete your HSC as well. A school based, part time trainee must complete the same number of hours of work and training that a full time trainee is expected to complete (normally 1200-1600 hours) they just do it over a longer period of time.
You will normally complete a minimum of 100 days of paid employment over the term of your traineeship.
Get a head start on your career and complete a TAFE-Delivered Vocational Education and Training (TVET) course, while you’re still at school.
All TVET courses help you build practical skills and industry-specific knowledge, and count toward your school outcome, with some courses contributing towards an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).
Students can use the UAC link for universities that is already on the site Universities Admissions Centre
As part of the SHS Careers program, Year 10 students take part in Mock Interviews. Mock Interviews are set up to resemble an environment and a scenario of a typical job interview. Students benefit greatly from this experience as it assists in building their confidence levels and provides students with constructive feedback that they may implement when it comes to the real thing.

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands and waterways on which we work and learn. Sylvania High School resides on the lands and waterways of the Dharawal people. We acknowledge their sacrifices and honour them through persistence and resilience in learning all that we can; sharing their truth and healing so that we can walk together to create a shared future.
