SHS Library

Sylvania High has a well resourced library with books, digital resources and computers available for student use. We also have an eLibrary which allows students to borrow and read books online and a Library Website to support students research, learning and literature interests.

Library website

The Library website is a engaging and informative space for Students to stay up to date with what’s happening in the Library, new resources that are available and a collated list of useful links to support research, Student learning and digital citizenship. Visit our Library Website here https://sites.google.com/view/sylvania-hs-library/home

Study Hub

Supporting Student Learning

The Study Hub is now open every Monday and Wednesday ( 3.05 – 4.30) supporting our students in their learning. The aim is to provide a quiet place where students can complete homework, catch up on study notes and work on their assessment tasks.  They can also utilise the resources of the library. The Study Hub will be supervised by staff, who may also be able to assist students should they have questions regrading their work.

Senior study

The Library is home to our Seniors during study periods and has been recently transformed into a contemporary, information rich learning environment that is flexible to maximise student engagement and cater to different learning styles.

Students have access to individual and collaborative learning areas, integrated technology, a designated section of HSC specific resources such as study guides, past papers and careers information as well as an extensive collection of print and digital resources which are critical for our 21st Century Learners.

Research and digital literacy

Digital literacy for today’s students is crucial as research tells us that the information literacy of young people has not improved with the widening access to, and greater familiarity with, information technology. To support students to become responsible digital citizens our Year 7 students are involved in Information Literacy lessons to learn the skills to help them locate, evaluate and effectively use information in a safe and responsible way.

Our students have access digital resources via Oliver and our SHS eLibrary which are available 24/7 from beyond the physical boundaries of the classroom and our Teacher Librarian is always on hand to assist students with their research needs.
