The school’s local intake area is determined by the Department of Education (DoE). In accordance with the Education Reform Act 1990, we ensure that every eligible local child will have a place at our school. Our school is proud to be a school of choice for our local families and encourages all families to enrol at their local public high school.
Enrolment is now completed online via the school’s website. Enrolment for 6-7 is completed when your child is in Year 6. To be enrolled as a local placement, you will need to provide 100 points of evidence as per the Enrolment Policy.
For parents or carers seeking placement in the dedicated Support Unit, please contact Miranda Office as these enrolments are centrally managed by Department of Education personnel.
Year 7 Non-Local Applications
‘Non-Local’ enrolment applies to students residing outside of Sylvania High School’s designated intake area. These students may be considered for enrolment depending on available space in the year group, the school’s enrolment cap and local enrolment buffer.
An enrolment buffer is maintained each year in each year group to accommodate local applicants who move into the area during the year. This is a NSW Department of Education requirement and may impact on availability of placement for out of area applicants.
Where vacancies exist in any given year, the number of positions available to out of area applicants will be determined by the Enrolment Committee, based on a clear set of criteria. Decisions regarding non-local offers of placement will be made across all selection criteria. No single criterion will guarantee placement.
Enrolment Committee
The Enrolment Committee is responsible for:
developing policy in relation to in-area applications where no vacancies exist.
consideration of non-local applications following the set criteria.
placement of non-local applicants on a priority list.
determining who shall be placed on a waiting list.
determining who is unsuccessful in their application.
Our school can help with enrolment queries throughout the year.
Local enrolment area
Check your address on School Finder to see if it is within our local intake area. Most schools have designated local enrolment areas. Note: local enrolment areas are subject to change.
How to enrol
If you live in our intake area and would like to apply to enrol at our school, start by submitting an online enrolment application. Online enrolment is currently only available for Australian or New Zealand citizens and permanent residents.
If you are not able to apply online or you prefer not to, download the paper application to enrol (PDF 768.4KB) form. Please complete the form in English. A translated application to enrol may help you do this.
Online enrolment can also be used for out-of-area enrolment. Please note that out-of-area enrolment procedures are subject to the department’s enrolment policy.
Enrolment applications are finalised at the school.
In NSW government schools, applying to move from primary school to high school is a 2-step process that starts with an Expression of Interest. Visit the moving to high school page to learn more about the process.
If you have received an offer from our school for placement into Year 7 next year, the next step is to visit online enrolment to proceed with the offer and complete the enrolment application.
If you did not submit an expression of interest or are not eligible, visit online enrolment to start a new application to our school.
If you submitted your expression of interest using a paper form, or would prefer not to enrol online, use the application to enrol (PDF 768.4KB) form.
Moving to high school
Visit the moving to high school page to find out more about the transition of year 6 students into year 7.
Distance education is an equity program for students who are geographically isolated or whose individual circumstances prevent them from regularly attending school.
