Whether your child needs extra support or opportunities for further challenge, our student-centred approach is designed to address their individual needs. Our inclusive culture guarantees that all students have equal access to learning and wellbeing experiences, leading to improved outcomes.

Individualised Learning

Our Learning Support Team offers focused assistance to students in both their academic progress and overall wellbeing. Our skilled Student Learning Support Officers, Head Teacher Special and Inclusive Education, and Learning Support Coordinator collaborate with staff and parents to implement tailored adjustments for each student’s learning. By working together to create Personalised Learning and Support Plans (PLASPs), teachers adapt their approaches to effectively support students with identified disabilities.

Support Unit

We have a vibrant Support Unit within our school, staffed by qualified and experienced special education teachers and SLSOs who specialise in working with students with identified intellectual disabilities and Autism. In our support classes, students receive targeted, individualised learning support at reduced class sizes, with opportunities to partially integrate into mainstream elective classes. Our students are actively involved in all aspects of school life and have additional opportunities within the local community to learn the life skills required beyond school. Placement in the Support Unit occurs through Access Requests initiated by your child’s primary school and managed centrally by the Department of Education.

The LaST

The role of our LaST (Learning and Support Teacher) is to cater for the full range of students who require learning assistance to help them achieve their potential. The LaST also has a very important role in both working with and developing the expertise of all classroom teachers.

• works as part of the LST (Learning Support Team)

• team teaches in targeted classes

• assists to identify students through analysis of National Literacy test results

• provides teachers with supplementary resource material and professional learning

• withdraws students from class for intensive reading/writing and assistance in scaffolding and completing assessment tasks

• helps test Year 6 students prior to entry to Year 7

• makes parental contact

• supports students who self refer

• organises parent tutor volunteers to work with individual students in reading.
